Trapped Wisdom Tooth Extraction in Jerusalem
A trapped wisdom tooth is one of four wisdom teeth every adult has, but that one, for any number of reasons, hasn’t grown as it should have. It could be an evolved wisdom tooth that hasn’t broken through the gums, or one that isn’t’ growing in the right angle in regard to the adjacent teeth and the jawbones. In that case, an extraction of the trapped wisdom tooth is called for.
When is Extracting Trapped Wisdom Teeth is Called For?
Generally, if a wisdom tooth is a source for other dental issues (whether it’s in the present of in the future), it’s best to extract it.
One of the reasons is that even trapped wisdom teeth could suffer from dental problems. If some of the trapped wisdom tooth has manages to break the gum line and was exposed to germs in the mouth, that trapped wisdom tooth can suffer from tooth decay, and its problematic placement or its complex angle could cause some difficulties in treating it or brushing it properly in the present or future, and in those cases – extracting the trapped wisdom tooth is the way to go. Alternatively, if there’s swelling where a wisdom tooth should be, and if it causes pain and difficulty in opening or closing the mouth, troubles swallowing, or purulent discharge – it indicated an inflammation of a trapped wisdom tooth, in which case an extraction rather than treatment will be recommended.
Another reason to extract a trapped wisdom tooth is if it interferes with other teeth or the jaw itself. Sometimes, a trapped wisdom tooth might grow in an angle that interferes with the adjacent teeth roots and could lead to inflammations and/or infections in other teeth.
Do Wisdom Teeth Have to be Extracted?
Not always. Some adults’ wisdom teeth never grow, and they don’t feel their lack. Only if a dentist recognizes an issue with the trapped wisdom tooth or a potential for other problems to arise (like damaging adjacent teeth) will they recommend an extraction of the tooth.
How are Wisdom Teeth Extracted?
Unlike other teeth extraction (including other wisdom teeth that have grown and sometimes need to be extracted like any other tooth), extracting trapped wisdom teeth can only be performed surgically. Because the tooth is trapped, they can’t be held properly using normal dental pliers that are required for manual extraction.
That’s why extracting trapped wisdom teeth is a type of small dental surgery: a small cut is made to the gum tissues to expose the trapped tooth, and then the dental surgent extracts it. Sometimes, and that depends on the complexity of the position and angle of the tooth, there might be a need to cut the tooth to extract it in several pieces to make sure no tooth parts remain. After all is done, the area is stitched up and starts to heal.
Extracting a Trapped Wisdom Tooth: Potential Side Effect
One of the most common side effects after a tooth extraction is pain stemming from the treated area. These pains are normally caused by the sedatives used during the surgery wearing of. There can also be slight swelling around the treated area, but both of these issues can normally be easily dealt with using over the counter pain killers and lots of patience.
