Regular Tooth Extraction in Jerusalem
A regular tooth extraction treatment is a treatment where an adult tooth has to be extracted due to damage to its different layers, and after every kind of other treatments has been disqualified or exhausted. This treatment is one of the types of tooth extraction treatments offered in Dr. Stela Heisler’s clinic in Talpiot, Jerusalem, as well as wisdom tooth extraction and surgical tooth extraction.
When Does a Regular Tooth Should Be Extracted?
Usually, our goal it to retain as much of the natural tooth tissue as possible, which is why a tooth extraction is the absolute last resort and is only performed if no other options exist. In most cases, a regular tooth extraction will happen as a result of tooth decay, infection that has penetrated deep into the tooth, or if the tooth isn’t help properly because of gum diseases. Other cases could be because of trauma or blow to the teeth, for example – like in a car accident.
How is Regular Tooth Extraction Performed?
Regular tooth extractions can only be performed by a qualified and experienced dentist or by a oral and maxillofacial surgical doctor. The treatment takes place at the dentist’s clinic while the patient is under local anesthesia, using dental pliers: the dentist captures the designated tooth using pliers and moves it from side to side until it disconnects from the jaw and is pulled out. After this is done, in some cases the area gets stitched up, if necessary, to speed up the healing process. The process takes about 20 to 30 minutes, and the healing is rather quick.
In more complex cases, for example in wisdom tooth extraction or a trapped wisdom tooth extraction, a regular tooth extraction might not be applicable, and a surgical tooth extraction will be required. In rare cases, the tooth extraction could evoke complications that forces the extraction to turn surgical.
What is the Difference Between a Regular Extraction and a Surgical Extraction?
As mentioned, a regular tooth extraction is a rather simple and quick procedure. A surgical tooth extraction on the other hand is by far more complex. It is a medical procedure that is only used in complex cases (like trapped teeth, extra teeth, broken teeth, or more). During the surgical extraction progress, the gums are cut open, very gentle tools have to be in use, and afterwards the place has to be stitched up – which causes the healing process to be slightly longer, and usually causes some more pain.
Tooth Extraction – Side Effects and Risks
A regular tooth extraction takes place under local anesthesia, so when it starts wearing off, some pain might be felt in the treated area, and it can be dealt with using over the counter painkillers. Some swelling might also occur, but that should pass after 2 or 3 days.
Generally, an extraction of a regular tooth is a simple and risk-free medical procedure, and yet, if the treated area is bleeding severely, the swelling doesn’t go away or if the pain grows stronger, you must immediately contact the dental clinic for further instructions.
