Root Canal Treatments in Jerusalem
Root canal treatment is designated for a tooth that suffered irreversible harm due to tooth decay, blow, or other reasons. Although it has a negative reputation for being painful or unpleasant, it can usually be avoided by maintaining good dental hygiene by brushing your teeth and regularly using dental mouth wash and flossing, but if the need for it still rises – it is a rather routine procedure over here in our dental clinic at Talpiot, Jerusalem.
What is a Root Canal Treatment?
Our teeth are affixed to our jaw by the root canal, which is the part of the tooth that exists furthest from the germs and possible infections the rest of the tooth is regularly exposed to. The older we grow, and especially if proper dental hygiene is not well kept, we might suffer from tooth decay, gum disease etc., and as time goes by, these infections penetrate deeper and deeper into the tissues, until they reach the inner tooth tissue also known as the tooth pulp.
If infections or tooth decay reach the tooth pulp, the small blood vessels and nerve endings in the area are starting to suffer from harm. This could cause the entire tooth to be lost. In that case, a root canal treatment can save the harmed tooth and prevent the infection that harmed it from spreading throughout the entire mouth.
How is a Root Canal Treatment Performed?
A normal root canal treatment is performed under local anesthesia, and usually there’s no need for any special preparations besides brushing your teeth before you visit the dental clinic.
First, the dentist will remove all the damaged parts of the tooth. For example, if it’s a root canal treatment that takes place due to tooth decay, the dentist will remove all tooth decay from the visible part of the tooth and will keep going until they reach the tooth pulp while cleaning all different areas of germs, including the root canal itself.
At this stage, the tooth is no longer infected, but it is too weak to function as a normal tooth. That’s because most of it does no longer exist, which is why it must be strengthened using a structure that will prevent the infection of recurring in the root canal. If the area is inflamed, the dentist will use a temporary dental filling until the inflammation will be cured.
The root canal treatment in Jerusalem is usually a part of rehabilitation treatments which includes a structure inside the damages tooth, and a dental crown installation on top of it to allow normal chewing mechanisms as well as a pleasant aesthetic look.
Root Canal Treatments Side Effects and Risks
Normally, root canal treatments are considered safe with high success rates. Root canal treatments can take place during pregnancy, and if necessary, kids can undergo the treatment as well.
Sometimes some pain might occur as the local anesthesia wears off. If that happens, over the counter painkillers are the way to go. There might also be slight swelling of the area as well as over-sensitivity to heat and cold – but all these side effects should pass naturally within a couple of days.
