Dental Implants in Jerusalem

השתלת שיניים בירושלים | שתלים דנטליים

Dental implants are the closest substitute of natural teeth that isn’t dentures. They are fixed into the jaw, allow to chew on hard types of food, and under the hands of an experienced and specialized dentist can be used as absolute natural teeth and restore a mouth that has lost teeth for any reasons (multiple extractions, accident, etc.).

When are Dental Implants Needed?

In many ways, our teeth are like other bones in our bodies, but unlike our other bones – the teeth don’t regenerate. From the moment our adult teeth merge they are all we have for the rest of our lives, and if something should happen to them, they will not heal or regrow. Until dental implants were developed, the only solution for anyone who had lost some or all teeth was dentures.

Nowadays, as we’ve previously mentioned, people don’t have to settle for that solution or give up on smiling or eating rough types of food that require strong chewing abilities. Dental implants can be suitable for people who have lost their teeth due to a gum disease, if they had tooth extractions due to tooth decay, if they suffered a severe blow to their mouth due to an accident or an act of violence, and their teeth have broken or fallen off.

Dental implants also have their aesthetic importance: lacking teeth can affect a person’s face and cause them to look older than they are, or even tired and groggy. That’s because the bone over which the teeth had existed up until now starts to withdraw and disappear. That’s why dental implants can make the face look younger, put the smile back on your face and increase the confidence.

How is the Dental Implantation performed?

There are several types of dental implants that differ in size and shape, but the main principle is identical. When a dental implantation surgery is performed, a gentle drilling of the jawbone is performed, and metal dental implants are screwed in. Afterwards, they are covered with gum tissue to let the place heal from the implantation. Healing after a dental implantation surgery can take several months, after which dental crowns that look and act just like a natural tooth can be installed. The treatment is usually performed under local anesthesia to relieve of any sensation of pain. In some rare cases, under the dentist’s consideration and the patient’s characteristics, a general anesthesia might be used.

Dental Implants: Side Effects and Risks

As previously mentioned, the treatment is done under local anesthesia and no pain, but once the anesthesia starts wearing off, there are high chances of experiencing some level of pain. This can be easily dealt with through the uses of painkillers. Additionally, some bleeding might occur in the first few post-surgery hours, and sometimes slight swelling of the face around the treated area can occur too, but that should stop a few days post-surgery. In the unlikely case where a dental implant causes non-stop pain, a dental implant falling off or any kind of other side effect, you should contact us immediately.

Regarding risks, it’s important to note that maintaining dental hygiene after the surgery is very important to prevent infections or gum diseases. Consuming alcohol or smoking can also affect the implantation’s success, which is why they should not be consumed for one month prior to the surgery, and one month after the surgery.
