Permanent Fixed Dentures in Jerusalem
Permanent fixed dentures (hybrid dentures) are an artificial replacement for lost natural teeth, that were lost due to a severe blow, multiple teeth extraction due to a gum disease, and so on. They usually look like other types of dentures, such as permanent removable dentures, but they are installed over dental implants that are fixed into the jawbone and are therefore a fixed rehabilitation treatment.
The permanent fixed dentures can be dental crowns or braces, and of course there are the full sets of teeth for patients who have lost all teeth in one or both of their jaws.
Installing Permanent Fixed Dentures
When only several fixed teeth have to be installed (for instance, a single crown instead of an extracted tooth), a titanium implant can be implanted into the jawbone and a crown can be screwed upon it. This is the same process as partial dentures.
If a full set of dentures has to be installed, then several dental implants are implanted, sometimes it’s four implants (if a system called All On 4 is used), and in our clinic we will usually implant at least six implants (using a system called All On 6). The implant implantation process is performed surgically by an oral and maxillofacial surgeon after preparing the designated location of each implant. After a recovery period of a few months, the fixed denture systems can be screwed over the implants.
Advantages of Permanent Fixed Dentures
The main advantage of fixed dentures over removable dentures is their grip. Permanent fixed dentures are screwed over implants that are implanted into the jawbone. That way, the sensation of using the teeth (both aesthetically and their function) is as close to natural teeth as possible: the patient can chew well, talk normally, and smile widely without being concerned with the teeth’s grip.
The many advantages of the permanent fixed dentures make them the “Mercedes of dental rehabilitation”, according to Dr. Heisler – A Jerusalem Dentist. And even though these are artificial teeth, it’s important to note that even permanent fixed teeth require maintaining a proper dental hygiene, such as brushing your teeth correctly and maintaining good gum health.
